Teravir (Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate) 300mg

Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate is a nucleotide analog HIV-1 reverse transcriptase inhibitor and an HBV reverse transcriptase inhibitor.

1. Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate is indicated in combination with other antiretroviral agents for the treatment of HIV-1 infection in adults and pediatric patients 2 years of age and older.

2. Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate is indicated for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B in adults and pediatric patients 12 years of age and older. 

Teravir  Dosage

Testing: Prior to initiation of Tenofovir, test patients for HIV infection. VEMLIDY alone should not be used in patients with HIV infection. Prior to or when initiating teravir, and during treatment on a clinically appropriate schedule, assess serum creatinine, estimated creatinine clearance, urine glucose, and urine protein in all patients. Also assess serum phosphorus in patients with chronic kidney disease.

 Recommended dosage: 25 mg (one tablet) taken orally once daily with food. 

 Renal Impairment: Tenofovir is not recommended in patients with estimated creatinine clearance below 15 mL per minute who are not receiving chronic hemodialysis. In patients on chronic hemodialysis, on hemodialysis days, administer teravir after hemodialysis.

 Hepatic Impairment: tenvir is not recommended in patients with decompensated (Child-Pugh B or C) hepatic impairment.

Teravir Side effects

Worsening of hepatitis B infection. Your hepatitis B (HBV) infection may become worse (flare-up) if you take Tenvir and then stop taking it. A “flare-up” is when your HBV infection suddenly returns in a worse way than before.

o Do not run out of Tenvir. Refill your prescription or talk to your healthcare provider before your Tenvir is all gone.

o Do not stop taking tenvir without first talking to your healthcare provider.

o If you stop taking tenvir, your healthcare provider will need to check your health often and do blood tests regularly for several months to check your HBV infection. Tell your healthcare provider about any new or unusual symptoms you may have after you stop taking
