Afanat (Afatinib 40 mg)

Afanat, a kinase inhibitor, is the generic equivalent of Afatinib 40mg and is indicated for the following purposes:

• As a first-line therapy for patients with non-resistant epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations in metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) confirmed through an FDA-approved test. It is important to note that the safety and effectiveness of Afatinib have not been established for patients with tumors that have resistant EGFR mutations.
• As an alternative treatment option for metastatic squamous NSCLC that has progressed after platinum-based chemotherapy.

Afatinib Dosage

The recommended dose of Afatinib is 40 mg taken orally once daily. However, in case of severe renal impairment, the dose should be reduced to 30 mg orally per day.

Patients should be advised to take Afatinib at least one hour before or two hours after a meal.

Afatinib Side Effects

If you experience any of the symptoms listed below while taking Afatinib, it is important to inform your doctor immediately, especially if they are severe or persistent:

• Swollen or cracked lips, sores in the corners of the mouth
• Itchiness or dry skin
• Loss of appetite
• Nail infection
• Acne
• Nosebleeds

Afatinib may also cause serious side effects. If any of the symptoms mentioned below or in the IMPORTANT WARNING section occur, stop taking Afatinib immediately and seek prompt medical attention:

• Diarrhea
• Signs of dehydration, such as decreased sweating, dark urine, dry mouth, and dry skin
• Reduced urination
• Swelling in the hands, arms, feet, or legs
• Rash
• Skin peeling, pain, redness, or blistering
• Difficulty breathing
• Rapid or irregular heartbeat, or pounding sensation in the chest
• Sudden weight gain
• Cough
• Fever
• Excessive fatigue
• Pain in the upper right section of the stomach
• Unusual bleeding or bruising
• Nausea or vomiting
• Yellowing of the eyes or skin
• Swollen, painful, teary, or red eyes
• Sudden changes in vision, including blurred vision.
