Abirapro 500mg, also known as abiraterone 500, is a type of medication that inhibits CYP17. This medication is intended for use in combination with prednisone to treat patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) or metastatic high-risk castration-sensitive prostate cancer (CSPC).

Abiraterone acetate Dosage

For the treatment of metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer, patients should take Abiraterone 1,000mg orally once daily along with prednisone 5mg orally twice daily. In the case of metastatic castration-sensitive prostate cancer, patients should take Abiraterone 1,000mg orally once daily with prednisone 5mg orally once daily. It is important for patients taking Abiraterone to also receive a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) analog concurrently or have had bilateral orchiectomy.

Abiraterone tablets should be taken as a single dose once daily on an empty stomach. It is recommended to not eat food 2 hours before and 1 hour after taking Abiraterone, and the tablets should be swallowed whole with water. Crushing or chewing the tablets should be avoided.

Dose modification may be necessary for certain patients. For patients with moderate hepatic impairment (Child-Pugh Class B) at baseline, the Abiraterone starting dose should be reduced to 250mg once daily. If patients develop hepatotoxicity during treatment, Abiraterone should be held until recovery, and then retreatment may be initiated at a reduced dose. In cases of severe hepatotoxicity, Abiraterone should be discontinued.

Abiraterone side effect

Abiraterone can have serious side effects, such as high blood pressure (hypertension), low blood potassium levels (hypokalemia), and fluid retention (edema). It is important to inform your healthcare provider if you experience any of the following symptoms:

• Dizziness
• Fast heartbeats
• Feeling faint or lightheaded
• Headache
• Confusion
• Muscle weakness
• Pain in your legs
• Swelling in your legs or feet

Stopping prednisone, getting an infection, or experiencing stress can cause adrenal problems. Liver problems are also a potential risk, which can cause changes in liver function blood tests. Your healthcare provider will perform blood tests to check your liver before and during treatment with Abiraterone. Liver failure can occur, leading to death, so inform your healthcare provider if you notice any of the following changes:

• Yellowing of the skin or eyes
• Darkening of the urine
• Severe nausea or vomiting

Common side effects of Abiraterone include weakness, joint swelling or pain, swelling in your legs or feet, hot flushes, diarrhea, vomiting, cough, high blood pressure, shortness of breath, urinary tract infection, bruising, low red blood cells (anemia) and low blood potassium levels, high blood sugar levels, high blood cholesterol and triglycerides, and certain other abnormal blood tests. If you experience any side effect that bothers you or does not go away, inform your healthcare provider.
